Merhaba . . . .
Welcome to Kemer one and all for winter 2003/2004. It’s great to see so many friends returned this year and also
to see all the new arrivals.
There should be lots of activities planned to keep everyone busy but if your particular ‘pleasure’ is not
amongst them then just advertise on the Kemer VHF net. Please remember, all activities are arranged by
volunteers so don’t give them (or the office) a hard time if things don’t go quite right – you might find you
have to take over yourself!!
Disclaimer; As usual the KK may be full of lies, errors and omissions. The editors, although responsible, just
simply refuse to accept that responsibility.

OBITUARY
Sadly not all has been fun
and games this summer. We have to say goodbye to Christian from Eagle 41 who regrettably passed away. One of the
most genuinely friendly people in the marina last year Christian could always be seen having his early morning
walk and chatting happily to all and sundry. He went the way he would have wished – at the wheel, sailing. Fair
winds wherever you are. |

Gossip Column
Who, (now having a
rather large boat), once aspired (when he was working as a dishwasher) to be a deck-chair attendant on St
Brelade’s Beach, Jersey?
Who, when letting off
a visitor’s dinghy line, also managed to untie his own?
Who, when having his
‘nearly’ bald head stroked by Geoff, ssid “I’ll give you 30 minutes to stop that”?
Who, when about to
drop the anchor and berth stern-to, had forgotten that the main was still up?
Who, when taking a
line ashore managed to fall out of the dinghy? (Probably multiple answers for this one)
Who is enjoying the
new batteries on Toucan Tango – Gary or Ann?
There are no ‘tan
lines’ on Gladlee’s pet cats!!
Any more amusing
anecdotes will be ‘gladlee’ accepted by the editors.

Tales from the Summer
EMYR 2003
The East
Mediterranean Yacht Rally was curtailed this year due to the Iraq war and unsettled situation in the Middle
East. However, a version of this rally did go ahead and 48 boats joined. The route went first to Girne, then
back to mainland Turkey and visited Boyazi, Alanya, Kemer, Finike, Goçek, Fethiye and Kaş.

Stari Grad
Gathering (Croatia)
24th-28th
June
For
those boats that headed to Croatia this year the annual ‘gathering’ took place as above. In all some 25 boats
turned up for this social meeting including the following Kemer boats; Gladlee of Guernsey, Vision, Bingo, Star
of the West and Riduna. A wonderful week was had by all and our thanks to the organisers; Dennis and Mary from
Teka III who are wintering in Marmaris. Among the events were trips out to see the island, a visit to a local
winery (See the picture of Frank trying to ‘get his share’), pot lucks, information and book exchanges etc etc.

Full Moon Party –
Kekova
10-11th
October
As
part of the Israeli rally which was here in Turkey, a ‘Full Moon Pary’ was held in Kekova. All were invited to
this celebration with a number of visitors also arriving by land.
65th
Birthday Party – John of La Gabriella.
On
the 17th October in Goçek John celebrated his 65th birthday and very kindly invited all
present to the party at the Palm Restaurant. A great night had by all and some ‘unusual’ gifts given. A very
large cabbage (John is on a veg soup diet), a vacuum cleaner (Jan getting her own back for the bow thruster she
received for her birthday)., a Bounty and a Kit-Kat as treats to offset the diet. Thank you John for the food
and drink. (Though not for the hangover the next morning).

Wedding Celebrations
Faruk & Ceran
Faruk and Ceran were officially
married on Sunday 26th October. I’m sure that everyone in the marina would join us in wishing them
every happiness for their future together. The official ‘party’ was held at Faruk’s village |

just outside Gocek to which not
only both families and most of Gocek were invited but also a host of Kemer yachties. Some were actually in Gocek
and others bussed down from Kemer along with the ever present party animal, Hasan. Lots of food and drink, good
music, dancing and of course the splendid wedding cake:
A very memorable and extremely
enjoyable occasion for all of us who attended. On behalf of the Kemer Liveaboards – thank you Faruk and Ceran.
(And of course the families of both who accepted 50 foreigners into their midst with nothing but smiles).
p.s. Sorry Tari, maybe R & J next
time.
