8th to 18th September 2025 - Jamaica trip - Sandals, Negril
|
Monday 8th
September After our flight on the 7th to LHR and a night in the The Thistle Hotel, we got a late checkout, so walked to a garden centre a few km away for a lovely breakfast. And then to the airport for our afternoon Virgin Atlantic flight to Montego Bay. Arrived about 19.30, got luggage and found the Sandal's office. 6 of us got on the transport to Negril which took about one and a half hours. Very loud music in reception as band playing, but managed to check-in and find our room (5109) on the garden side. |

9th September Buffet breakfast at the main dining area, Bayside Restaurant. Lots of cattle egrets and one snowy egret around trying to steal the food off the diners plates until the staff put out a table full of food for them to eat. Apparently they preferred sausages and bread! At 09.00 we took the orientation tour. Tried to change rooms as our patio was near to the main road and quite noisy but was too expensive so we decided to stay put. An hour on the beach with 'cocktail of the day' from Perla Bar. Lunch Bayside. Dinner at Barefoot restaurant, R had swordfish and J seafood bisque and snapper fillet. |

| Dinner at the Japanese Restaurant, Kimonos. This consisted of a group sat round a table and the chef cooking on the hotplate. Our chef was very entertaining with his singing. The meal consisted of: egg fried rice, stir-fried vegetables then fish, steak and chicken. Desserts were eaten in another room with coffee. |

September Early breakfast at Bayside. Picked up by Marc at 08.00 in a lovely Land Cruiser for our tour. Unfortunately two of the things we wanted to do were closed, Appleton Rumery and YS Falls. So, instead to a picturesque river where we spent a little while looking round then on to the Black River where we took a pontoon boat river cruise. Lots of salt-water crocodiles about which apparently are quite tame! Nice cruise up the river where we saw some nice plants including the water Hyacinth and some birds. |

| Next stop was further on round the coast where we picked up a small boat and went to the Pelican Bar located just offshore on a reef. Fun, very ramshackle, place. Bits had been added over the years but completely haphazard. Red-stripe, the beer company, had supplied solar panels to power the place so they even served food. |
