31st July - 14th August 2021 - Trip to France

Saturday 31st July

Flight from Larnaca to Toulouse via Athens.

Spending a couple of weeks here in Le Mayne with Phil and Alison. First opportunity to get away for a while and we are here for Phil's birthday just to assist with the celebrations.

Sunday 1st August

Market near Luzech, at Saint-Vincent –Rive-D’Olt.

We visited one of the many Flea Markets in the local villages around the area.

Next to the Sunday Flea market Start of our walk alongside the river

Monday 2nd August

Another nice long walk along the old railway tracks from Castlefranc to Prayssac. Deserving beer in the square before walking back.

Tuesday 3rd August

A walk in the morning from the house.

Meal at the local ex-Michelin starred restaurant, the 'Vigne Haut', in the evening. Duck of course. And Crème Brule or profiteroles.

Wednesday 4th August - Cahors

A visit on our own to Cahors with a very nice walk seeing the old bridge, the Pont Valentre, and around the old town area. First Espresso coffee in France while waiting for the rain to ease then a nice lunch at the 'Le Baladin' restaurant.

Thursday 5th August - Puy-L’Eveque

Following a visit to the reclamation yard for Phil trying to find some Polycarbonate sheeting, a really nice walk around the medieval village followed, of course, by a beer at the top.

Later we tried out the new local bar just over the bridge. Very basic but fun. We visited this place frequently over the next week or so for an early evening beer.

Friday 6th August - Bourg-de-Visa

To Joe and Lyn's. Wouldn't be a visit to France without dropping in on our Cyprus friends Joe and Lyn. Much work done by Joe updating the house from our last visit.

Very small village of Bourg de Visa Another nice walk with Joe and Lynn this time
Sunflower country Actually big sunflower country
Wine o'clock The back view of the house.

Saturday 7th August

In the morning we had a look around Beauville. Very odd history in this village. At the end of the 19th century a small troop of red Indians turned up here starving. They had obviously been part of a visiting show touring France but had been deserted by the show. At that time the village offered them use of a patch of land to live on and made sure they had food and water. Now every year representatives from the tribe fly from the USA to give thanks to the village.

Bit of serious conversation Nice views from the village
And another view Bit of explanation??

Sunday 8th August

After our visit to Luzech market we all took a fairly long walk along the river Lot. On past the church to our turn round point and back to Luzech for a well earned beer. Well that's what we thought. Somehow all four of us seemed to become invisible to the waitress and after about twenty minutes of waiting decided that a beer at the house was a better alternative.

Down by the riverside Contemplating the river?
Must be an eclipse? Old church but handily with toilets

Monday 9th August - Rocamadour

You really can't come to this neck of the woods without a visit to Rocamadour. Stunning medieval city built into the cliff face. Quite a walk down from the top road but managed to find the lift to get back up (Two lifts actually). This place also hosts the Roche des Aigles - otherwise know as the raptor bird show.

Unbelievable building onto the rocks Just a lovely old house in the village

Tuesday 10th August

Phil, Alison and Julie took the long walk to Albas while Ron drove there to meet up for lunch. Unfortunately the local restaurant was closed so again back home for lunch and a beer.

Wednesday 11th August

Phil's retirement age birthday party. Not too well attended due to Covid issues this year but the four of us managed to do it justice. We went down to the river for a picnic and enjoyed the sunshine and a few beers. Finished the day at 'The Pont' restaurant in Castlefranc where Moules/Frites was the order of the day.

Picnic at the riverside Alison's homemade cake for birthday boy

Thursday 12th August

Quiet day.

Friday 13th August

The two of us drove to Albas and did a walk we had previously done some years ago along the Lot. A last visit to the 'Vigne Haute' restaurant in the evening for their wonderful Confit Duck.

Julie by the river Model yacht race

Saturday 14th August

Time to head back to sunny Larnaca via Athens. This time much easier in Athens.
